B.A. in Business Administration Practicum

All business administration students with a fall 2019 catalog year or later must complete one 3-unit approved course with a grade of "C" or better.

Note: you cannot double-count between your practicum and concentration courses.

Choose one from the three pathways:

1. Experiential Learning Course

This pathway is best for students who want to develop a portfolio and complete case studies in their area of interest. Once you declare your concentration*, you can work with your faculty mentor on choosing an appropriate experiential learning course. If you do not attend your mentoring session, or do not know who your mentor is, you can connect with your concentration department's Vice Chair.

View a full list of approved experiential learning courses (PDF) for your concentration.

For questions about meeting pre-requisite requirements, contact the academic department for permit requests.

*Once you have completed all your lower division business core courses, you may declare your concentration online.

2. Academic Internship Course

This pathway is best for students who want to build relevant experience on their resume. If you choose this pathway, we suggest that you plan at least one semester ahead since you need to be enrolled in the respective 495 internship course simultaneously with your internship. Make an appointment to discuss tips on internships with Business Career Services. You may also refer to the step-by-step instructions through the Center for Internships and Community Engagement (CICE).

Watch the on-demand videos from Business Career Services to learn more about internships.

View Internship FAQs (PDF) for answers to your questions about internships.

3. Professional and Career Development Course

This pathway is best for students who are unsure of their concentration or what career trajectories are related to their chosen concentration. The class, BUAD 300 - Professional and Career Development, is designed for sophomore and junior students who are just starting upper-division business curriculum. The class will guide you in doing research, exploring which area of business you want to focus on, how to build your academic path, and other co-curricular activities to get you ready for the career path you want to pursue.

If you choose this pathway, BUAD 300 is open to sophomores and juniors (not open to freshmen or seniors). Transfer students interested in this pathway are recommended to take BUAD 300 in their first semester at CSUF.

Prerequisite: Completion of G.E. Areas A.2, A.3, and projected sophomore or junior standing. Restricted  to freshmen (earned units + in-progress units = 29 units or fewer) and seniors (earned units + in-progress units = 90 units or more).
