MA Economics, MS Accountancy, MS Information Systems, & MS Taxation Concentration Electives Procedures

Students admitted to the MS Accountancy, MS Information System or MS Taxation program will choose electives in consultation with the Concentration Exploration Advisor.

How do I choose my Concentration?

Step 1 – When to choose a concentration?

  • Newly admitted students are required to submit a concentration approval form, in their first semester, by the following deadlines:
    • Newly Admitted Fall students: Submit by October 1st
    • Newly admitted Spring students: Submit by April 1st
    • MA Economics students only: Work with your Exploration Econ Faculty Advisor

Courses taken and completed prior to approval may not be used as part of your study plan.

Step 2 – Prior to the consultation what is needed?

Download a concentration elective form and  (Step 3) submit to faculty advisor for approval.

  • All concentration courses must be approved by the Concentration Exploration Advisors or their designee. There are no specific lists of courses to choose from. Please use the University Catalog for a list of courses offered through the department.
  • Each department has a list of classes, course descriptions, and schedules online: Accounting, Economics, and Information Systems & Decision .

Step 3   - Who do I submit my concentration elective approval form to?

  1. Concentration Exploration Faculty contact information
  2. Contact the Graduate Concentration Exploration Advisors by email, phone, or schedule a meeting for a consultation. The Graduate Concentration Exploration Advisor will provide you with guidance on what courses should be suitable for your professional goals.
  3. Obtain a signature from the Graduate Concentration Advisor on the concentration elective approval form.
  4. Send a copy of the signed form to your Graduate advisor by email or you may drop off the form at the front desk in Graduate Programs, SGMH-4210. NOTE: this email is for form submission only. All and any questions must be directed to your appropriate advisor
  • Please keep in mind not all concentration courses may not be offered each semester. If a course on your concentration elective approval sheet is not offered during the semester you may change your concentration electives. 

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

How do I change electives for my current Concentration?

  • Download a new concentration elective approval form (above).
  • Obtain approval from the Graduate Concentration Exploration Advisors
  • Submit the newly approved concentration elective approval form.
    • The approved form must be submitted prior to enrolling and completing the courses.
    • If you neglect to submit an update form you will not be able to use the completed course as part of your study plan.
  • This process is same one that you followed the first time that you obtained approval for your concentration (see above).

(MSIS students only) How do I request to switch to a different Concentration?

  • Fill out the petition to change your concentration (pdf) .
  • Download a concentration elective approval form (above)
  • Obtain Dr. Zerom's signature approval for Study Plan and elective course changes
  • Submit both the change request and concentration approval form together to your Graduate Advisor.

Courses not eligible for graduate or program credit:
